Deal, or No Deal,

And it will all be over by Christmas they said.
A walk today along my past in Hulls Hessle Road....
A Christmas I remember from the Fishing community on Hulls Hessle Road where is mural is painted to Hull fishing community of years gone by...
On Christmas Day, 1966, 12 crew of the St Finbarr trawler died in an explosion off the coast of Newfoundland. With only 13 survivors, Hull families did not know in the immediate aftermath whether their loved ones had survived, plunging much of the city into confusion and despair.
I wonder what a lot of people then would have thought of today’s dealings...
Until disaster struck the St Finbarr was a bit of a coup for owners Thomas Hamling and Co, who had hoped the ship would be the saviour of the firm, ensuring huge catches away from Iceland, where years of Cod Wars and ever-increasing fishing limits threatened distant water fleets.

And indeed, on her maiden voyage in 1964, St Finbarr smashed the national catch record hauling in 488 tons and 17 hundredweight – and had continued to do so since.
Costing £535,000 (£12m in today's money) the St Finbarr was the first full-freezer operation stern trawler in the port. Most of Hull's fleet was still sidewinder vessels, and significantly tougher on the crew to man.

Weighing around 1,200 tons, the stern freezer trawler was more than twice the size and could go to sea for up to three times as long, freezing the haul as they went.
How things have changed..
Merry Christmas...Blippers....
