Three-lined Hoverfly
One of our endemic hoverflies. It is as long as a large blowfly, but its body is narrower, and it stands with its legs spread wider than a blowfly does. As with others of our native hoverflies it is rather fancy. I’ve been wanting to get a nice natural photo of one for years, but I usually only see them inside on windows. This one was lurking in a dark corner. I gave it a poke to get it to come out to the light, but it readily stepped onto my finger. Even then I had to use the flash. Best seen full screen.
