The Mother of Nations

Another discovery prompted by blipping!

I have passed the statue of Edward VII on Union Street, Aberdeen, on countless occasions over the years but, until today, I hadn't really looked carefully at the sculpture on the right hand side of the statue.

Britannia, the Mother of Nations, is shown being offered a hand of friendship by the young female figure representing Canada and Australia. As for the boy in the bottom right who is plaintively holding up an offering - he symbolises the African and Indian peoples!

Without a trace of irony, the three figures together make up a sculpture called 'Imperial Unity'!
