Photography took on a different significance for me during the time that I ran a pupil newspaper at the school in which I teach in Aberdeen - we gradually moved from pages with lots of thumbnails to a single strong picture on most pages.

Sport has always been an interest and my role as webmaster for Gordonian RFC for three years inevitably led me to experiment with points of view and composition as I endeavoured to present similar shots of rugby matches in different ways each week.

A more recent fascination has been with macro photography as I find it intriguing and uplifting that so much interest can be found in subjects the deeper you delve into their essence.

I'm looking forward to the opportunity to have such a creative context and purpose for taking photographs. I will also be interested to see what my youngest daughter comes up with as she's decided to provide some family competition with this activity!
