just for you...
... dear blip friends, I traversed the exceptionally muddy field to show you the reverse side of the Kilnaruane Stone which caused a bit of interest yesterday. And I was only wearing my ankle height goloshes which were not really up to the job. However here is the other side - you will have to take my word for it but starting at the top are some interlocking designs followed by a figure with outstretched arms- interpreted as Jesus calming the storm or a figure praying, then there is a rather fine cross, followed by the now almost indecipherable St Antony and St John breaking bread in the desert! The pillar stone, or possibly high cross. dates from the 9thC and might have been used to teach people about the Bible stories. There was a small ecclesiastical settlement up here, perched on a drumlin, overlooking Bantry Bay. Lesson over. Makes a change from Christmas/Brexit/Covid/Trump!
