Windy Aberdeenshire
An early morning blip today on my way to work in Inverurie, here are three of the numerous wind turbines in Aberdeenshire silhouetted against the morning sky. I could see about fifteen of these dotted around the landscape from my safe vantage point near Cairnorrie, from where I've blipped before.
It is said there are more wind turbines in Aberdeenshire per head of the population than anywhere else in Scotland. This might have something to do with well off farmers seeing an opportunity to exploit the wind and make a buck or two. It's taken the Council a while to develop a strategic approach to these, and a community benefit policy is in its embryonic state. In the meantime some of our more entrepreneurial communities have grasped the opportunity to go for wholly community-owned resources where 100% of the profits will be ploughed back into the community. Good on them! Part of my job is to encourage others to do the same.
