A STAR IN THE MAKING!

Once again it is a rainy, dull day, so we didn’t rush to get up - well, I didn’t - Mr. HCB was already up, having been downstairs at his usual time of 6 o’clock, leaving me to spread diagonally across the bed and enjoy another two hours sleeping!

After we had had our shower, I broached the subject with him of recording a Christmas Carol for the Church Service on 27th December.  Susan, our Worship Leader, had sent an email to everyone saying, “One of the things I’m going to miss about this Christmas is singing Christmas songs with my Church family…so I wondered if you’d like to join me in singing at least one.”

I was definitely up for it, and when I briefly mentioned it to Mr. HCB last night, it’s fair to say he wasn’t that keen, but when I mentioned it again this morning, he said he would sing.  Before he changed his mind, I quickly found my microphone and set that up with the iPad and headphones next to it and I started the recording.  Fortunately, because I have recorded lots of songs before, I knew what to do, so it was quite a quick process.

We did have a quick rehearsal first, with me singing as well, but it just needed to be Mr. HCB, on his own, so I left him singing away.  However, after he had recorded his song, which incidentally was “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”, he did say that the volume of the backing track wasn’t that loud - so I did offer to set it up for him to record it again, but he was adamant that once was enough and no amount of persuasion would get him to do it again!

He was so engrossed and concentrating on his words that he didn’t even realise that I was taking this photograph, but for the sake of posterity and just in case he becomes a mega-star, I thought I should document it in some way - I did do a short video too, but he has threatened me with all manner of things if I dare put that up anywhere but as I reminded him, this could be the new Number 1 Hit this Christmas! ;-)

I then recorded my two Carols and then put them into our Church Dropbox for Susan to work her magic - and I’m sure it will all be fine.  If nothing else, when all this is over, we shall be able to talk about when we recorded Christmas Carols for a Zoom service at Church and hopefully by the time we are doing that, we will singing together again for real!

Things that brought me joy today:

Chatting to our next door neighbour, Lynn, and her Mum, who is 95 and has been to have her Covid vaccine - she said it was easy and nothing to worry about - so that’s good to know

Hearing Mr. HCB singing - he has a lovely voice, but needs some encouragement so I need to work on him!

Good, wholesome, Broccoli and Blue Cheese soup for our lunch with sour dough bread.

“Singing provides a true sense
     of lightheartedness.
If I sing when I am alone,
     I feel wonderful.
          It’s freedom.”
Andrea Bocelli
