Vaguely festive
I put this little combo together earlier in the week. The new poinsettia, some pussy willow branches (from the supermarket), and some recycled lights that only needed some new batteries and a clean of the contact points to make them work. That's as good as it's going to get here.
Not a good night's sleep after late last night's alarms. I'm not getting too agitated about the whole thing, which could have been so much worse. We could have been out, or away. It could have come down through the light fitting and shortcircuited the lights. We could have had carpets and the casualties could have been much greater than one 39 year old rug, that did a decent job of soaking up some of the water, but which I deemed to be unrescuable. It could have come down the wall and ruined our new print. It could have come down in the sitting room and damaged our furniture. So many different options. As it is, by the time I got up this morning, it was already pretty dry, and I deemed the mattress dry enough by 6pm to remake the bed for occupation (early) this evening. None the less, it takes its toll, as does doing 5 loads of washing, mostly consisting of towels, which all had to be found homes on our various drying racks.
I dragged myself out of bed in time to get a bit of breakfast before a 9am class. I did the class in the living room which felt *really* strange - I normally do them in our spare room/Mr A's office, but we'd been sleeping in there, and anyway Mr A stayed in bed until nearly 10am as he wasn't feeling 100%. Really, apart from the clear up and sort out (I had to move the wardrobe to check it wasn't wet underneath), we haven't achieved much today. We went to the supermarket, but not for anything to cook as such as we had some leftovers which I reheated. I have been laying in some frozen green vegetables in the freezer to see us through a couple of weeks of shortages if need be. If it's worse than that, well tant pis. We hung two of our newly framed maps in the hall. Having been given to understand they wouldn't be ready until next week, Mr A got the call yesterday afternoon and went down to collect them. They look amazing. The other two are going in the kitchen, but we'd prefer to do that in daylight. So that'll be getting done in March, then :-( No, seriously, we'll probably do it tomorrow.
Anyway, indeed, tomorrow. That'll be another day.
