I believe we bought this at the Smithsonian. It is displayed here in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, in humongous proportions. This is appropriate since there was a movie with King Kong filmed here.
At the end of our senior management retreat today my boss asked us for thoughts on the business post-Covid. Naturally we all wanted to know how he was defining post-Covid. I assume
- we will not all have a vaccine at the same time
- as we get vaccinated we can resume coming into the office
- after we have a vaccine we can still get Covid but we'll be able to fight it effectively
- while we are fighting it we will be contagious
- we therefore will need to continue to wear masks even after we've been vaccinated until we've reached herd immunity
(- that if we don't have enough people get vaccinated that we will never reach herd immunity and will always have a reservoir of the virus and we will never be post-Covid)
- that once we have a vaccine it will be "safe enough" to travel
- no one knows how long the antibodies will last
I don't know that the above is true but I've run it by my mother-in-law and by my neighbor who works for the FDA and they agree that this understanding seems accurate.
I argued for a much more liberal telework policy, including that anyone sick or with a sick person in their household be allowed to work from home because, even without the pandemic, who wants to catch the flu? Everyone else agreed with this completely. I think we may all be more conscious of communicable illnesses for a while.
Some of us have to work in the offices of clients and this is extremely valuable in developing and maintaining relationships.
We might start "hoteling" in the office - if you don't come in at least three times a week you don't get to keep your designated office space.
I suggested that people's performance during the pandemic was a floor because even if we were ok, we've all been living in an extremely stressful environment watching the rest of the world on fire. So if our performance was ok or good during this period, he should only expect it to get better as the overall world conditions improve and that stress is reduced.
The Pfizer vaccine was approved in the US about an hour ago.
