Breakfast Buffet

A lightning trip to Maine early this morning with yet another car load of stuff for Periwinkle Cottage.  We left Boston at 6:30 a.m. and were on Westport Island by 9:00!  As soon as we unlocked the door, the most ungodly stink emanated out of the house -- something has obviously expired in the wall somewhere.  Thank heavens we weren't planning on staying too long!  As soon as we'd deposited our collection of boxes in the house we darted out of there.  As we stood on the front porch enjoying great lungfuls of fresh air, we heard a faint rat-a-tat-tat, and on further investigation we saw this little Downy Woodpecker busily hammering away at the trunk of a tree.  Every few moments, he'd stop and cock his head and listen carefully.  We assume he must have been able to hear insects under the bark, disturbed by his frenetic tapping!
