Heat source

In expectation of the plumbers (idraulico in Italian) I got some money out and went up to Tirani’s to buy pellets in. I handed over the cash and something for delivery and the lorry was at the house in 20 minutes. I felt most important as I clambered up to put the bars and slings on the pallet and then much less important as the one tonne pallet swung over me. All was well and my first transporter load to the pellet ‘shed’ carried 22 bags - or a third of a tonne - perhaps a little optimistic although the load capacity is 450kgs. One of my boarding planks broke and a new bit of the patio broke away. The individual bags didn’t feel heavy but after loading and unloading all 66 I was feeling well warmed up.

In the middle of this the plumbers arrived and began the installation of the boiler and the fitting of the heat sump - delightfully known as a pooffer.

It is three years , one month and 15 days since we bought the house and soon we will have the old central heating system working.

It’s strange that a plumber in English is known after the material they worked with initially (lead) and in Italian a hydraulico is known for the substance that ran through the lead pipes - hydro/water. And both have ‘foreign’ word roots - plumbum - Latin and hydro - Greek.
