Spinnin' Discs...

This 'old-school' record store on Paton Street near Manchester's Piccadilly Station is the real deal. Yes kids this is what record stores used to be like. It could have been transported here from any point in time over the last forty years. I guess what was once such a common retail practice is now labelled as 'specialist' amidst modern era music purchasing where the download button is king. I have to admit that it is a very long time since I bought music on vinyl (or 8-track, cassette and CD for that matter) but there are consumers who still want to purchase a 'real product'. And why not? I have great memories of rifling through rows of LP-filled boxes, lovingly admiring the sleeve artwork (Guy Peellaert's cover of The Rolling Stones "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll", Led Zep's "IV", Peter Blake's "Sgt Peppers" of course and who remembers the Stones' "Sticky Fingers" album with a real zip!). Ex-jukebox singles were a favourite as well - the ones with no centre and you had to buy adaptors! Happy Days. It is appealing to see that some independent music stores still exist.
