Chamois Shenanigans before the Rut.

(Just posted “The Big Boys” for yesterday a couple of hours ago. Thanks to all who have already popped in to see them).

This morning was freezing cold, with the north wind blowing hard as we crunched across the snow into a very different biotope (extra) to yesterday, glad to reach the sunshine at about 10am and watch a total of 32 chamois doing their thing. Life is on the edge for chamois at the moment. The males are chasing each other for the right to inseminate as many females as possible. (See extra for the tongue and posturing of a male from yesterday, a chamois version of the Hakka!). The females are trying to stay out of the way as they are not quite ready for love yet. You see little groups of them on ridges. We were glad to get back out of the snow and wind to drive back to home comforts, I have to admit.
