St Peter's church Plemstall stands isolated at the end of a country lane. It has an elevated position, known as the Isle of Chester, in the once marshy surrounding countryside. It is said that the original church was built by a shipwrecked Irish sailor who promised to do so if he was saved.
A few yards down the lane is a well dedicated to St Plegmund who lived here as a hermit. He later bacame Archbishop of Canterbury.
Not only was our walk boggy underfoot but it was misty and drizzley.
