Kristof on the Kanal
A super explore today guided by my chum Andrew. We went through Broxbourne Woods dropping down to the canal near Ware and back south to home. I hadn't done the first half before and the landscape was fascinating. At one point we were cycling north along the old Roman Ermine Street (see extra).
Along the towpath there was time for a distanced tea stop. On the final stretch we encountered a selection of wood carvings displayed on the bank and had the pleasure of meeting Kristof from Hungary. He explained that he does the carvings as a hobby, although I reckon he could sell some of them.
Living in a narrow boat with his girlfriend in the one next door he was carving and chiselling various heads including this one. We congratulated him on his excellent English. In exchange for our compliments he agreed to a portrait.
What a lovely fellow, seemingly content with the world and not owning a lot. But his chisels will see him through.
