A late birthday present

My daughter, who seems to know me well, ordered this book for me. A collection of photos of people from around the world. But the difference with this book is that the author stopped and took time with each individual, to listen to their stories.

He took the time to be with people and it was time that was needed for people to engage with him. They talked with him at length, and he seemed to be in no great hurry. So eventually he heard their heartbeat. The stories of their lives.

I love this. The stories range all over the place because people all have different, unique lives. It’s an investment of time and listening that many people don’t have an opportunity to ever experience in their lives. And it paid off.

This book is a delightful record of lives lived around the world’s rich and poor, healthy and ill.

What a great gift for me.
