I'm goin' for Baroque

Pages from my sheet music are admittedly a ho-hum subject for a photo, but I am so excited to be starting on this new piece by Henry Eccles, issued to me at today's lesson.

Henry Eccles, (1670-1742) was an English composer of the Baroque period and other than the fact that he is the son of Solomon Eccles, and brother to John Eccles, I have been unsuccessful in finding much about him!

The G minor sonata (pictured here) was, I believe, originally written for double bass. You can hear how differently the piece comes across when performed on cello - by a very young man, no less!

My guess is that the original accompaniment, back in the day, would have been some sort of harpsichord continuo, rather than piano which was still in its infancy.

This piece will be a huge, huge challenge for me, but well worth the effort!
