Wool felt
I made discovery last week. Although I have made my own felt and done some needle-felting, I have often used ready-made felt, which is something entirely different, at home, in school. It’s great stuff for children learning to sew, as it cuts easily, sews nicely and does not fray. However, I have never really liked the feel of it and the limited range of rather garish colours and would not choose to use it myself. Then I found a pattern and instructions for some embroidered felt animals and I couldn’t resist.
I watched a video about the making and I was taken aback when the lady talked about the need to use wool felt, rather than acrylic craft felt. I had never realised there was a difference. Of course all the usual outlets, e.g. Hobbycraft, only had acrylic felt - it is cheaper. Then I discovered the Wool Felt Company based in Nottingham and was amazed at the range of colours they had. I ordered a few sheets and what a joy it is to use - so soft and pliable and lovely to sew with. I have ordered more. This felt embroidery may become addictive. I can’t show what I am currently making, but even without the more obvious pieces that would give it away, someone who knows my grandchildren might guess.
In Extras I have put a photo of a double page from one of the Blipbooks I am making. Just to answer a few questions I have been asked. The pages are a little less than A4 size. I am very pleased with them and loving making them as it means going back through blips - of course I often get distracted and start reading them and the comments!
