Fishing on the Medway

Heavy overnight rain and gusty winds gave way to a sunny morning and a very pleasant afternoon.

By way of an excursion we took the car to Waitrose on the other side of town on an essential journey of great necessity to procure more supplies of their excellent Peruvian decaf coffee and decaf tea and one or two other items.

As were able to park there for free for three we walked from there into town to buy an inner tube for my rear wheel (having identified the issue as a faulty valve letting air out) from a cycle shop.

We returned to Waitrose along the River Medway which was very enjoyable in the sun. It was in the banks of the river that this scene presented itself and so became today’s blip.

The last part of the walk from the river back up to Waitrose passes by a factory that seems to specialise in baking croissants, pain au chocolat and other sweet pastry goodies which quite a torture when it’s almost 1.30pm and breakfast was a long time ago.

I surprised myself by managing to take off the rear wheel, remove and replace the inner tube and replace the wheel and chain and brakes without much difficulty. A task I’ve only done once before many years ago. The wheel stayed firmly fixed on a test run to the allotment.

While all this was going on Susan was toasty warm in her studio working on a name plate for her latest great niece. It’s a full time occupation as there have been so many of them in the last few years.

Tonight’s dinner is scotch broth with all the vegetables from the allotment, with the addition of smoked salmon pieces which adds a flavoursome dimension to the the brew.

Our neighbours were having some tree felling done. I liked the name of the company doing the work.
