A Walk in the Woods

This morning I finished off what I'm doing on the pond for now, unless I can get some plants. I'll tidy up the liner edging properly in the Spring, the ground is just so wet for walking on now.  This afternoon G and I went for a walk in the woods at Felbrigg, it was overcast most of the time but we were very lucky and the sun came out for a few minutes for photos. I've also posted a photo of lots of fungi on a tree stump as an Extra.

UK deaths up 532 to 49,770 (revised basis), with 20,412 new cases, 13,617 patients in hospital and 1,268 on ventilation. The ONS reports 31,684 extra deaths at home in E&W during the pandemic, with just 2,676 of these involving Covid-19. The ONS also reports 1,379 deaths in the w/e 30/10 with Covid-19 on the death certificate, up 41% on the prev wk and the highest since 5/6. The NHS has been told to be ready to deploy a Covid-19 vaccine from the start of Dec, with GPs getting £150m to support this (Pfizer vaccine wasn't tested on children and will not be given to them). For England, primary care areas will nominate a GP surgery that could hold clinics from 8 till 8 and 7 days a week including bank holidays if needed, with patients supervised for 15 mins after receiving the vaccine. GCSE, AS and A-level exams in 2021 in Wales have been scrapped and grades will be awarded by teacher-managed assessments. Three areas in Scotland are moved up a level re restrictions. Rapid turnaround lateral flow tests have been offered to every local authority in England who expressed an interest as part of planned mass testing (not sure why they called Liverpool a pilot as these tests have only been used there for 4 days). NHS staff are to be tested twice a week starting on Tues. A hospital in Naples has become overwhelmed, resulting in people with suspected cv being given oxygen in their cars. Some children hit by nursery and school closures have regressed in basic skills such as using a knife and fork and have even reverted to using nappies.  Unemployment has risen to 4.8% with 314,000 redundancies in the 3 months to Sept per the ONS.
