fleshy fungus

After our walk, D remembered that he had seen an exciting purple fungus in the woods and took me to see it. It was growing near the fallen beech tree, but D thinks that the wood it lives on might a sycamore bough which came down at the same time as the beech.
This beauty is Ascocoryne sarcoides, known as the Purple Jelly Disc. Thankfully my book says that it is inedible.
