First frost
After a very mild autumn, we had our first couple of frosts this week. I went down to the river early this morning, hoping it would be misty - and I wasn't disappointed, though it's now much harder to find good vantage points among the nettles and reeds that dominate much of the formerly open bank.
Frost and fog transform the everyday into a fairy tale scene - dry umbellifer heads become intricate jewelled sculptures while grasses are transformed into cascades of sparkling light. I don't think I'll ever outgrow the joy that this brings.
