Ladybird

Hurt no living thing:
Ladybird, nor butterfly,
Nor moth with dusty wing.
~Christina Georgina Rossetti

It goes without saying that this doesn't apply to spiders, wasps or daddy long legs that dare to enter my house!

Day 236 / Day 2 of Lockdown 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 355 to 48,475 (revised basis), with 23,287 new cases, 12,999 patients in hospital and 1,181 in ventilator beds. R no. remains at 1.1-1.3. ONS infection survey to w/e 31/10 estimated 618,700 with the virus in community settings in England, which is 1 in 90 people. This is up 9% from the previous week, although the rate of increase is slowing. Globally cases to date passed 49m last night, up 1m in just under 2 days (up 612k yesterday). New cases in the US were up 118,319 yesterday in a third surge of cases. Deaths in Italy passed 40k yesterday. Denmark has been added to the UK Quarantine list after the mutated virus from mink farms infected humans (I think those entering the country from Denmark should be tested too given the potential risk).

Hundreds of people were tested today in Liverpool's 6 test centres as part of a mass testing pilot, with 2,000 members of the military helping NHS staff. New 1 hour lateral flow tests are being used as well as swab tests. 20 min LAMP tests are being trialled for hospital and care home staff, but the Guardian are reporting more than 50% of positive cases were missed in a Greater MCr pilot, denied by the DHSC. The UK Statistics Authority has rebuked the Govt again, this time saying that confidence could be undermined if official figures were not 'supported by transparent information being provided in a timely manner.' It follows challenges to official figures provided on Saturday to justify the lockdown, and the figure for potential deaths of 1,500 daily deaths by early Dec being revised to 1,010.
