Up and Down
Love waking up and wondering what I'll see when I open the little red shutter by my bed (instead of knowing it'll be another baking hot day). I looked in the night as well, and saw a brightly shining planet. Was surprised to see the waning moon, and pleased to see clouds, though it's taken till after dark for a little rain to fall. At ground level, the early sun was turning the stone wall golden, behind the olive trees (in extra).
Chose the blue for my main on purpose, heck, how can so many vote for that type of government? It does make one ponder...
Gratefuls:
- living in a country with a reasonable government
- lopped a lot more in the lane beside our Land; it's the responsibility of the local Council, but we're tired of getting our car scratched
- a cheerful log fire on a thundery night
If you're finding the election hard to swallow, here's today's quote from The Body, ch6 - Down the Hatch: Mouth and Throat, p113
Uniquely among mammals, we send our air and food down the same tunnel... It is pretty amazing when you reflect upon it that you can sit at a dinner party enjoying yourself extravagantly - eating, talking, laughing, breathing, slurping wine - and that your nasopharyngeal guardians will send everything to the right place, in two directions, without you having to give it a moment's consideration. That's quite an accomplishment. But there is even more to it than that. While you are chattering away about work or school catchment zones or the price of kale, your brain is closely monitoring not just the taste and freshness of what you are eating, but also its bulk and texture. So, it will allow you to swallow a large 'wet' bolus (like an oyster or lump of ice-cream) but insists on more meticulous chewing for small, dry, sharp items like nuts and seeds that might not pass so smoothly.
