Harbour Cottage

Today's the day ……………………. to navigate

This well-known building is built into the quay at the entrance to the harbour in Kirkcudbright - and proudly holds out the final green navigation light.  Looking downstream you can see all yachts moored up in the marina and behind us is where all the fishing boats land their catches.  It's a busy place.

Getting to Kirkcudbright Harbour, whatever size of boat you're on, is quite a tricky business.  You have to navigate from the Solway Firth, along the length of the Dee Estuary which has an 8m difference between high and low tides.  You have to work out the Tide Tables correctly to make sure there's enough water to float your boat.

Thankfully, there are green and red buoys marking the navigation channel.  So, as long as you leave the port markers (red) to port (left) and the starboard markers (green) to starboard )right) as you head in to the channel towards the harbour - you'll be fine.

Hope you got all that …………………….?
