Times Have Changed

This view, 250m from the harbour edge and 40m by elevation shows, in the background, the tower of King Charles The Martyr church, all the land in the foreground used to be the cemetery.
Burying people on that incline couldn’t have been easy and I wouldn’t envy the pall bearers, bit of a climb from the church.
Over the years, as the area was developed, the remains once interred there were relocated to the new Swanpool Cemetery.
There are still headstones there, they form part of the perimeter walls, there are also a couple of tombs, one of which is shown in the second photo.
It always fascinated me walking up through on the way home and there is always something that I hadn’t noticed previously.

Clare and I enjoyed our second day of her four days off, a stroll to town was postponed until tomorrow as we enjoyed a ‘pyjama’ day.
