Spring Hues and Hugh
In addition to the sunshine and unexpected blue sky, today's monthly winter market was filled with color, from the early-flowering red currant featured above to green and pink spicy salad mix and the saturated green of fresh kale -- a delight to the eye and the spirit!
I couldn't linger long, however, as we had to be in Seattle this afternoon for a memorial service for a former member of Seattle Welsh Choir, who died recently at age 92. The choir has disbanded, but 14 of the previous members, including Phil and me, gathered to sing one of Hugh's favorite Welsh hymns and the Welsh national anthem in "the language of heaven," as the Welsh sometimes describe their native tongue, for his final farewell.
There were tears and laughter, photos of Hugh from cherished baby to beloved elder, remembrances from family and friends who spoke -- including Phil -- and throughout, from prelude to postlude, congregational hymns and our choir's contributions, the glorious music of Wales that Hugh loved so dearly.
