To the beach

A rare ray of sunshine this morning brought a wonderful change from weeks of rain and cloud. After the long distance reading with our grandson - the last before his half term break - we headed east to Tyninghame. We had not been here since our children were young.

The sun shone brightly through the turning deciduous leaves, and then dappled us as we walked through the pine forest to the estuary shore. The autumn scents from the pine trees were as profound as I can remember.

Despite a full car park there is an enormous expanse of coast and country to absorb the visitors here and despite it being local half term week, and sunny, there were relatively few human encounters. (An added boon in these Covid times!)

The sunlight was spectacular and the Bass Rock and Isle of May were low lit enhancing their sentinel status at the mouth of The Firth of Forth. The Dunbar lifeboat plied a speedy course for home passing two idle bulk carriers while behind them the USNS Medgar Evers was heading home after supporting the recent military war games over and around Scotland.
