Wrigleys Chewing Gum
This is for the over 60s!!! I was in a supermarket today, waiting to pay, and saw lots of packets of chewing gum for sale. Seeing them reminded me of how we used to buy chewing gum in the 1950s.
There used to be these Wrigleys chewing gum machines which were fixed to the walls outside shops. You put in 6d and turned the dial, which had an arrow on it, and your chewing gum was dispensed into the slot at the bottom of the machine. Every fourth turn of the dial, you got an extra packet of chewing gum so, every child wandered around, checking out the dial on the machine to see where it was. The chance of finding the dial in the right position was simply amazing. TWO packets of chewing gum for the price of one. Remember these were the days before anything was buy one get one free. Simple pleasures!!!!
