Wetheriggs Country Park.
Clickychick needed to find some autumn colour near Penrith, os this afternoon we went for a walk in the grandly named Wetheriggs Country Park. At one time it was a fairly small wild area between the A66 and the Wetheriggs estate. It still is a fairly small area but it has had a face lift.
The park was created as part of the "planning gain" when the town lost its main car park to the supermarket development which is now Sainsbury's. A fairly pleasant circular walk has been laid out through the woodland, with primitive exercise equipment at intervals and a large open grass area big enough for a football pitch.
All sorts of blips presented themselves. Most of them very repeatable and possibly better. As a result I have opted for this group of fruiting bodies from a fungus. Sorry I am very poor with fungi and have no idea what it is other than I would refer to it as a bracket fungus. Other wood in the area was covered with lots of very white "matchsticks" and inch or so long.
