Arfur and Q

We’ve had a busy time with the bunnies recently. Q was very poorly with an ear infection, although she is starting do better and getting back to her old self. She’s on a cocktail of antibiotics and an ear instillation that seem to be helping.

Arfur has just been diagnosed with melanoma, the same cancer Kiki had. We are devastated about this, and despite only finding it just over a week ago it seems to have grown. We know from our experience with Kiki’s melanoma that it is very aggressive, and the fact that Arfur’s has grown so quickly suggests his is no different. It’s a supposedly rare disease in rabbits so there isn’t any effective treatment. We could choose to have it removed surgically but it is likely spread already, so we’re not sure that would benefit Arfur, we don’t want to put him through anything traumatic, especially after our experience with Kiki. It’s an awful situation and one we just were not expecting.
