Crab Apples (Malus sylvestris)

A busy day.  I was torn between colour popping some autumn leaves and catching the Crab Apples before they all fall.   Clearly the apples won.

Cultivated apples have this species as one of their ancestors.   Now there are over 6,000 varieties of domestic apple.  Folklore has associated Crab Apples with fertility and marriage.   However they are more commonly known for making jelly from and also wine.
