The Buttercross, Somerton.
I met up with my friend Roger for a coffee or two in Somerton this morning.
Somerton was the ancient capital of Wessex in Anglo Saxon and Roman times and is a very picturesque and unspoilt town, occasionally used for film and TV sets (anyone remember The Monocled Mutineer?).
This structure in Market Square is known as the Buttercross: built by a rich local family in 1673 it was used to keep dairy products cool and dry on market days.
The blip was taken from the vantage point of our table outside the Buttercross Tea Room.
