At first I took a dislike to him - thought him to be pretentious & self-important. Saw him destroy the poor "extra" Russian, Andrey Rublev.

He fought brute force with subtlety & intelligence. Don't usually watch the ghastly after-match interviews, but I was curious & pleased to be proved wrong. He was funny, self effacing & enigmatic...
