Unchained Melody

As part of the ongoing bathroom makeover, we decided to take down the vertical blinds and give them a good clean. Inevitably, this led to many of the hanging clips disintegrating, but I’d anticipated this and had plenty of spares ready to go.
What I hadn’t anticipated was just how rusty the chain was - no amount of wire wool was going to get that clean. Could have ordered one off eBay but, in an attempt to shop local I thought I’d see if the place we’d got the blind from originally was open to the public again (went past a month or so ago and the shop side was firmly shut and access to the workshop was strictly by appointment only)
The shop was open and though there was a sign saying “appointments only” the assistant waved me in when I appeared in the doorway. Initially she said they didn’t have any “bronze” chain but when I pointed out that was rust and it should be bright and shiny, there was no problem in providing a replacement. Bought some plastic joining clips as well, as I anticipated maybe breaking a few of those during the rehanging process.
Grand total of £4 if I paid cash. I must have looked surprised as she went on to explain that using the card machine would incur all sorts of charges and taxes........
I took the hint and paid cash. Felt quite strange actually paying for something using coin of the realm!
