Michaelmas Daisies

These flowers from my garden bring back happy memories.

The plants themselves were “stolen” as rootings from the front garden of my childhood home and come up reliably every year around this time, reminding me of the happy childhood I had, and the place I called home well into adulthood, even when I had homes of my own.

My sister and I went to St Michael’s C of E Church School, and every year we celebrated Michaelmas by the whole school walking the 0.5mile or so, crocodile fashion, to St Michael’s church for a celebratory service.  On those days we picked bunches of the daisies to decorate the school and church (we may have used them to celebrate harvest festival around the same time but the mind is hazy after this all time!)
