From my archive: Savusauna, Nurmes, Otra-aho 1972.

The first Finnish saunas are what nowadays are called savusaunas, or smoke saunas.[9] These differed from present-day saunas in that they were heated by heating a pile of rocks called kiuas by burning large amounts of wood about 6 to 8 hours and then letting the smoke out before enjoying the löyly, or sauna. (Wikipedia).

Please see also the Extra: Panorama of a courtyard which is located on a norhern hill (vaara). Ilomantsi Hattuvaara. No wires, no antennas. The roof are covered with flat splints.

No electricity, no plastic, no phones, no cars, no... But lots of other things we now long for..
