Well, what else would you expect the 'butcher' to be wearing during the pandemic? I was in Sheringham this morning for a hygienist appointment, my appointment for May obviously got cancelled. I used the NHS Covid app to scan their QR code to check in, nice and easy. No water jet thing (creates aerosol particles), just the pick and the suction thingy (no rinsing or spitting) and no polish which was all fine for me. No sign of any check ups going ahead yet, but she couldn't see anything amiss. A number of people are still ignoring the one way signs on the pavements and few were wearing their masks on the high street despite social distancing being impossible.

UK deaths up 71 to 42,143 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 7,108, 2,252 patients in hospital and now over 300 in ventilator beds. Globally cases to date pass 34m, up 1m in 4 days. Today saw the 100th coronavirus update, which was just an update on the latest figures which are still 'going in the wrong direction' and 'we don't have this under control at the moment'. It's clear from the graphs that in England the main problems are in the NW & NE (driven by infections in 17-21 year olds), but that numbers are growing across almost all areas. It was reiterated that the NHS is still open for business and that we all need to comply with restrictions to avoid a total lockdown with associated economic impact. We'll also soon be getting 70% of PPE from British manufacturers which is up from 1%, and that we are still on target for 500,000 daily tests by the end of October.

MPs overwhelmingly approved the renewal of the Govt's emergency coronavirus powers after the Govt offered greater consultation with MPs and received a ticking off by the Speaker. A Covid outbreak at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital has led to 8 deaths, 82 cases and hence 'significant temporary service restrictions'. The ONS reports that the UK Household savings ratio surged from c8% to 29.1% during Apr-Jun (lockdown). Breast cancer screening is now up and running again after being paused due to Covid, but it is thought that c1m screenings therefore didn't take place and that means c8.600 women could be living with undetected cancer.
