Merrell might think they're being very clever disposing of the traditional tongue and instead having an allegedly stretchy sleeve affiar. Unfortunately the action of removal and insertion of the feet into the sleeve means that the back of the sleeve rips to buggery over the course of time leaving scratchy ends which rip the ankles.

I note with interest that this style of shoe now comes with a proper tongue.
