The Sultan & The Cycle Courier, London
An image hadn't approached me for a whole week until today. No gentle nudge, subtle wink or light tap on the shoulder, not even a slap in the face or a heavy stamp on my foot. I didn't "see" anything at all - just seemed to walk round aimlessly with my camera on my shoulder feeling as if I would never get a shot again.
Then for some reason today the fog cleared, the images waved a big hello and I was off! The main shot was taken on the way up to Oxford Street and I actually moved my feet (note to self - move around more when trying to get a shot , you idiot!) and changed the composition to get the cycle courier in.
The first extra is called "A Hand Out From The Bank". I have no idea why this rider had her hand out like this but it did add to the image. It's weird how Boris Bikes seem to have been sponsored by banks, first Barclays and now Santander. Probably appropriate with all the "dirty" Russian money being recycled through their accounts and the Tories biggest donor coming from there and having connections to Putin.
The last two images ("Leg Up & Head Down" and "Yellow Dog & Lady In Blue") are of some delightful street art by the artist Tess Smith-Roberts. They made me smile and it brightened up my day no end. I really loved how she used the vents on the buildings as part of the artwork - genius!
In work news, it's all become a bit of a mess. Technicians are so vital to the smooth running of everything at work, from bringing artworks to our photo studios, to framing and unframing paintings, building sets and multiple intricate technical aspects of handling expensive works of art yet they are now having to work with a skeleton staff (due to redundancies, people leaving, illness and the odd accident ( one poor tech fell of his bike, breaking ribs and a shoulder) and they are all exhausted and stressed out to the eyeballs. The situation was roaring up in the rearview mirror but nothing was done and now it's hit crisis point. Not good. To top it all off it was Mental Health Awareness Week at work - some of the techs had a rueful laugh about that one!
