Dunblane cathedral

Some tourists still remain in Scotland and I joined a few this afternoon visiting 
         Dunblane  cathedral, now re-opened after the peak of the pandemic.
 
       It dates back to the 11th century and this is the first time in its history it had been forced to close.      Even  during the Black Death it remained open.
 

  One of the highlights are the series of brass plaques placed in the floor of the high altar to the graves of Margaret Drummond, mistress to King James IV of Scotland and her two sisters who were all poisoned. ( See extra)

 
   The story goes that this was political intrigue over Royal marriages though a more mundane explanation is that the sisters died of food poisoning.
 
 But then  the Victorians loved a bit of melodrama and were not prepared to let the  facts stand in the way of a good story.  Also the Drummonds were a major   benefactor of the cathedral.

   Over the years I have visited the cathedral many times and enjoyed innumerable  concerts there, like the Greenlandic choir.
