Lantern clock
Quarantine day 5
It is not often I have the privilege of working on all of these. This is an 18th century example of a lantern clock, the precursor of the English long case or grandfather clock as most people know them. It has the original rope drive and verge escapement. I had finished the clock by lunchtime and then found two amusing articles to share with the French conversation group this afternoon. One was the report of a man who used a live snake wrapped around his face as a mask on a Manchester bus and the other described the problem of the Internet going down every morning at 7 am in a Welsh village. Apparently after much investigation, it was found that someone with an old television set caused a electrical frequency surge that crashed the Internet when he switched on the set every morning at 7 am This was not before all the phone cables had been replaced in the village!
