Devon cottage
The forecast wasn’t very good, but we set off in a southerly direction, wanting to see the sea. We reached Charmouth, and this was a pilgrimage for Normous as he had camped there with his Youth Fellowship. Needless to say, he didn’t remember it! We parked for a while on the beach, watching a surfer trying to catch the waves. We had the windscreen wipers going, but I went outside to get a photo - a typical English seaside picture! See extra.
We spent much of the day wandering in the car down narrow lanes seeing pretty villages and lovely thatched cottages. One had a post box in the wall, (another extra) We passed through Lyme Regis and Sidmouth, still busy with tourists. It didn’t rain all day, and the sun broke through at times. We found a pleasant pub for a bite to eat at lunch time. It is a good thing N enjoys driving, some of the narrow lanes were quite challenging, and involved a lot of reversing. We even met a school bus who gave a cheery thumbs up after we had reversed at least 100 yards. A good day!
