2020 Saturday — Birthday Girl
Granddaughter Ashly (without an “e”) and her hubby Robert arrived about 6:00 this evening. They put their things in the downstairs guest room and then came upstairs where we had some chips and hummus and eyeballed the view. The ocean was visible with a big roll of cloud all along the horizon line. It looked as though someone had just rolled-up the clouds into a big long tube.
It was about 6:40 when I mentioned that we needed to start walking if we wanted to be on the shoreline as the sun was setting and then walk the shore toward the pier and the restaurants so we could find a place to have birthday dinner.
When we arrived at the beach lookout, the sun was just above the clouds. Perfect timing. We stood there watching the once-a-day event of the sun descending below the horizon line (actually the earth is rotating, not the sun).
Once the sun was gone, we exited the beach lookout (where the photo was taken), and walked on the street to the First Street stairs to the sand.
Then we were down the stairs and on the sand and walking to the pier. Then we walked toward Schooners Restaurant. We learned earlier in the day that Schooners doesn’t accept reservations. So when we inquired about a table for 4, we were told the wait would be at least an hour. So we kept walking and stopped at Lunada’s Garden Bistro. We had phoned them earlier in the day and learned that they do take reservations, but they were full for this evening. We decided to ask about availability and they immediately sat us at a table for 4.
We had an enjoyable meal, except that it took forever to get our food, so long that the waiter gave us another round of beverages on the house.
Later when asked if we wanted dessert, Robert & Ashly both started to decline when I explained that it was her birthday and immediately the waiter said, “I’ll be right back.” And he was back instantly with a beautiful slice of cheesecake with a sliced strawberry and sauce as garnish and four forks. The waiter got everyone seated in the garden singing “Happy Birthday” to Ashly. It was a great moment.
After we paid the bill, we exited to Ocean Avenue and the four of us walked home in the darkness (Cayucos has few, very few, street lights), but we were under an umbrella of stars.
By the time we arrived home the clock was ticking its way to 10:00. So we all said good night and they headed to their guest room suite, and we walked upstairs to get the pups out of their crates and out the back door to relieve themselves. Then we were opening every window; this had been an extremely warm day and our little house was holding all the heat. The ceiling fans and open windows cooled us quickly.
This was a very good day!
