Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Friday — Rock Soup

When I was a little girl often the question I would throw at Mom late in the afternoon as my sister and I would come in and out of the house to get some toys, fetch a snack from the cupboard, or use the bathroom was, “What’s for dinner?”

Occasionally when Mom was in a jovial mood or feeling a little sassy, she’d respond with “We’re having rock soup.”

That statement would swirl in my head as I would fling the front screen door open to run back to my friends who were waiting.

I’d get an imaginary visual of rocks piled-up in a pan of boiling liquid. The simmering pot and its possible aroma did not gag me, but filled my thoughts with wondering.

So, looking at this table and Morro Rock triggered those long ago thoughts; memories from my childhood and growing-up days in Norwalk, California.

Today we walked on the shore in the morning and then later in the afternoon we loaded the pups into the car and drove to Tidelands Park in Morro Bay to walk alongside the water of the back bay, which is where this photo was captured. It was very windy and chilly, so we did not walk a long way when we turned around to head back to our car.

Then we decided to find dinner before going back to the house and enjoyed fish & chips at the Hofbrau.

We learned late in the day that our oldest granddaughter, Ashly, is coming here tomorrow with her hubby to celebrate her 32nd birthday. We are thrilled. They are going to leave little RJ home with his paternal grandparents. They have never spent a night without him.

So that’s how Friday unrolled,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too
