The Boathouse at Oteley
This afternoon I was part of a group of a dozen local musicians playing for visitors to Oteley as part of the National Gardens Scheme. As there were so many of us we did two hours each (due to the Rule of Six) and sat on the terrace playing while visitors walked around. It was good to see them again as we hadn't met up since before lockdown.
Oteley is a huge country estate bordering the Mere. There was an Elizabethan manor house there that was sadly demolished in the 1960s to make way for a red brick 1930s style house.
There are huge gardens and parkland with many features from the old house such as a walled garden, towers, a summer house and gardener's cottage.
My blip is of the boathouse which has steps and viewing platforms looking across The Mere. The top of it is covered with Italianate style mosaics. The internal steps down to the water to where the boats are moored is the extra photo.
