Female Common Darter Dragonfly
Today we went to Whixall Moss. There were very few birds around but plenty of dragonflies. We spotted a toadand interestingly whenit spotted us it disappeared backwards into a hole in the ground. I've never seen one do that before!
Unfortunately we'd forgotten to put midge cream on and we made fine meals for the flying creatures that abounded.
The road to Whixall is only wide enough for one vehicle and winds around lots of sharp corners. As we came round a corner a young man came towards us on his bike with his eyes on his mobile phone not the road. F jammed his breaks on and we made an emergency stop. The cyclist (eyes on phone and earphones in) diddn't see us and continued coming towards us. F peeped his horn which did alert him and he stopped about a yard before hitting us. he did have the grace to apologise but he was lucky that we hadn't been going fast!
