Lawyer's Wig

A lot of these Shaggy Ink Cap fungi (coprinus comatus) shoot out of our lawn each September.  It only takes about three or four days for them to grow from nothing to full size and then they rapidly dissolve into a black liquid and disappear.  It is supposed to be edible until the gills turn black but I will leave that to others to try.
