Pyrton
This is the pretty little Oxfordshire village of Pyrton where we went for another concert today. Pyrton means pear-tree farm, and there are two magnificant pear trees at the entrance to St Mary's church. Most of the pears had fallen off the one of which I took a photo. Most of the audience were taking a few home.
Pyrton was a royal estate when it was first mentioned in the records in 774. The church was built in the 12th century but much got at by the Victorians.
I thought Margaret might like the magnificent hedge which is box on the left and yew on the right.
The West Lodge which is in the process of being renovated, must be at the edge of the next door Shirburn Castle's estate. The Castle used to be the home of the Earls of Macclesfield but is now owned by a property company. It was used as Midsomer Priory in the Midsomer Murders on TV.
