Life through the lens...

Tremenheere

One of the few gardens in Cornwall where you don’t have to book, so decided, as it was another glorious day, we would visit this morning.

Tremenheere a sculpture garden is a favourite of ours, and only a few miles from where we stay.

We arrived just as it opened, and although there were a few cars there before us, everyone was waiting for the cafe. ( now only doing takeaways)
So we were the first people to enter the garden, and had it to ourselves for the first hour.
Walking up through the wooded garden, full of tree ferns, was magical.
Every now and again you come across a sculpture.
The path climbs up and as you walk through the exotic gardens you have wonderful views of St Michael’s Mount.

As well as the flowers and ferns the collage shows the large sculpture you see high on the hillside. Entitled “ Restless Temple” and designed by Penny Saunders, it moves with the wind.
Another sculpture is made out of a disused water tank.
“ Aqua Oscura” by James Turrel.
Lastly Michael Chakins wind sculptures. They were certainly moving today as it was quite breezy up there.
As we were leaving more people were arriving, and although there is a one way system, walking clockwise round the garden, some people obviously have clocks going in the opposite direction.

We then decided to drive over to Newlyn for lunch.
Couldn’t believe we actually got a parking spot in the tiny carpark.
Then managed to get a table in the small restaurant “ Mackerel Sky.”
We had a fabulous meal. Shared plates of Shell on Prawns with aioli.
Mussels Mariniere. and chips.
Mr C had Crab nachos
While I had a chocolate mousse.
I also started with a delightful gin and tonic.
The gin was Caspyn Gin made in Penzance, from hibiscus flowers, lemon and orange peel, lemon grass, lemon verbena, Japanese tea, and gorse flowers .
I’m not a gin expert, but this was fabulous.
( Mr C says he will buy me a bottle to bring home!)
See first extra.

Second extra is the beach, or not, at Perranuthnoe. Tide was well up and yet it was still 2 hours till high tide.
The surfers were enjoying it.

Finished off tonight with a fish curry. Pollock bought from Newlyn today.

Another enjoyable day. Never had a full week of such good weather!
